I am sure you have seen the cartoons and email forwards about how to pill a cat, amusing but sometimes not that far off.
Greenies Pill Pockets have been a lifesaver for me, both at home and at the shelter. A pill gun helps but why bother when they will happily take a ‘treat’from you, ensuring that they take their pill with some food.
I always try the pill in a little wet food first, a small amount of butter etc but at the shelter, Pill Pockets are cleaner and help stop the spread of disease that could be caused by using a spoon of butter or handling something that needs to be broken up into pieces.
You just pop the pill inside the treat and pinch it closed, leaving a happy cat and you not becoming one of those people in the forwards, covered in blood from trying to pill your cat. They also come in dog sizes for bigger pills.

Spending time with the dogs in the dog park at the shelter is fun, but messy and tiring. The Chuck-It allows you to throw balls further for the animals and reduces stress on your back / shoulders while throwing too.
My fave benefit is not having to pick up slobbery tennis balls, just scoop them up in the contoured holder and flick it to throw the ball back out for them to get some much needed exercise.
I also find this useful in winter when I am bundled up and its harder to throw the ball a good distance due to layers of clothes / coat softening the throw.
The Chuck-It is around $10 and sold in most pet stores

I still remember the firs
t time I used the Furminator, I borrowed a friends furminator before making the investment thinking yeah there is a lot of hype, but is it worth the money?
I took my friends advice, and the one I had used an knew worked, and got the medium deshedder instead of the smaller cat one, it just seemed to work better, maybe because I have bigger cats but the cat one seemed to take longer and so got bitten more.
I have not tried the shampoo, solution or the TubNub bathing brush, using only the furminator on a regular basis but everyone remarks on how well groomer my cats look and family, who have allergies, mention that my cats do not bother them as much as other cats.
The blade at first looked a little daunting, but I was promised at a show that it does not cut the fur and watched them use it on several animals at a grooming presentation a
t the All About Pets show in Toronto before believing that. So I eagerly came home ready for a good brushing session. Brushing the 5 cats I had at the time always took forever.
I wish I still had the photo, my regularly groomed cats took to the brush right away, so the metal blade did not seem to hurt them at all but my living room floor was literally covered in cat fur, despite the fact they had been brushed with their regular brushes just the week before, the amount of fur was unbelieveable.
FURminators are stocked at most Global Pet Foods, PETSmarts and PetValus as well as many vets and other independent pet stores.
MyPetBoutique is based in Toronto and sell many stylish products for your pets including giftbaskets and sets for Christmas.
The ‘Walk About Town’ set features a matching collar and leash, a toy and cookies for that perfect day out with your pooch and the ‘Treat Me Right’ basket will leave you wishing that you are a dog (or at least your dog).
For those who know someone adopting a pet this year, they have a New Arrival pack, including a journal and helpful hints for new pet owners, a pewter bone shaped photo frame to remember those puppy dog / shelter dog eyes the day you brought them home and some toys for the new dog too.
Their cat products are very similar, featuring homemade treat baskets for those who prefer to make their own, or gourmet treat baskets for those who prefer ready made. They also have many gifts for the cat lover, and even a special gift set for your cat-sitter!
But my favourite has to be the food bowls that have been created with the pet in mind, the Meow Dish allows for stress free dining with their whiskers never touching the sites of the bowl and it is elevated to help with those cats who can not eat quick enough and the Pooch Bowl, which comes in Big Pooch and Lil’ Pup sizes
